Despite its prominent position in the CBD, the Auckland Central City Library has struggled to achieve a significant presence in the city. The facility opened in 1971 and substantial design modifications were undertaken in 1980. CDCR-Susanville Wastewater Treatment Plant Modifications Project

image

The California Correctional Center at Susanville and High Desert State Prison, owned by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), has grown and prison wastewater flows have exceeded the wastewater treatment system capability. As a result of overloading of the existing treatment facility and disposal areas, the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board issued a number of Board Orders requiring changes to and an upgrade of the wastewater treatment plant. Winzler & Kelly was contracted to design the upgrades for the plant. The nearly USD40 million project was designed in 2007 – 2008 with construction scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2009.

The existing facility is located in an unincorporated area of Lassen County, approximately seven miles east of the City of Susanville and is situated on a 1,100-acre parcel owned by CDCR. The Visitors Center includes an exhibit hall, reception and lobby area, book store, bathrooms, and multi-purpose room. Sight lines from the reception area into the exhibit hall were stressed to encourage visitors to enter the exhibit hall. The project design employed a Building Information Model (BIM) in order to allow both the owner and the design team to accurately understand the coordination of architectural and structural elements and the aesthetic features of the complex roof-framing and open site lines. GHD served as the prime consultant and completed the civil, structural, mechanical and electrical system design, the environmental review and permitting, and is serving as the LEED® Project Administrator and Commissioning Agent.
