The Darra to Springfield Transport Corridor is the first
large-scale integrated road and rail project for South East
Queensland.
The purpose of the AUD1.5 billion project is to improve road,
rail and public transport links between Darra and Springfield to
service the growing population centres along the corridor and will
be built in two stages.
Stage 1 is a dual passenger railway line from Darra to railway
station at Richlands (north of Progress Road) and the duplicated
Centenary Highway north of the Logan Motorway Interchange. Stage 1
will be completed by 2011. Stage 2 is a railway line to
Springfield, including a station at Springfield and duplicated
Centenary Highway to Springfield. Stage 2 will be completed by
2015.
The Horizon Alliance formed by Queensland Rail, John Holland,
GHD and KBR to deliver the project, which was successful in gaining
approval for Stage 1 following preparation of Target Cost Estimate
(TCE) for the ‘Base Case’ and Stage 1.
The project is an excellent example of engineering integration
work being done during the options development, design and
documentation of new railway infrastructure and required input from
design groups including civil, rail alignment, structures,
geotechnical, drainage, hydrology, signalling, telecommunication,
transmission distribution, power systems, operational systems,
architecture, landscape architecture coordinated with support
disciplines such as environment, planning, approvals and community
consultations.
The GHD ITS team is currently undertaking the ITS component of
this project, including concept design and detailed design, system
integration, contract administration and commissioning. Our
specialists currently supply skilled resources to the Alliance and
are integral to staffing the Rail and Rail Systems teams.
