Perak Groundwater Resource Study (Malaysia)

Sime Darby Water Resources (Perak) Sdn. Bhd. engaged GHD to complete a pre-feasibility study and phase one of a feasibility study for the development of a groundwater resource in the state of Perak.

The studies were carried out to determine the potential for a sustainable groundwater resource of up to 5000Ml/d day from fractured rock and alluvial aquifer systems in the Batang Padang District. The first stage involved a detailed airborne and ground geophysical survey coupled with drilling of 49 groundwater investigation wells and aquifer testing at a number of these sites.

Using leading technology, GHD’s specialists were able to achieve a yield of more than 5Ml/d  from the rock, against a target average of 1ML/d , winning praise from Dato’ Ir. Jauhari Hamidi, Executive Vice President of Sime Darby Utilities Division.

The project demonstrated GHD’s capacity to deliver innovative solutions for quickly evaluating and demonstrating groundwater resources in geological terrains normally considered too difficult to explore for groundwater. The project harnessed the collaborative resources of technical specialists from a number of GHD offices including Manila, Perth, Singleton and Brisbane.
