The Australian Government funded Australian Technical Colleges across Australia in areas where there are skills needs, a high youth population and a strong industry base

For the Maitland College project GHD provided the architectural design, documentation and building contract administration for this new technical high school campus. Initially accommodating 130 students, the facilities include an administration building, classrooms, a library and workshops.

A number of low capital cost design features were incorporated by GHD to mitigate negative environmental impacts. These included the provision of vented and insulated roof spaces and passive cross ventilation principles to reduce air-conditioning loads. Roof water was also retained for landscape irrigation and the planting selection was based on low water consumption requirements.
