Telstra 3G mobile phone rollout

GHD completed engineering design and survey at more than 2000 sites for Telstra’s WCDMA 850 (Jersey) national rollout.

As part of this project, GHD was engaged by several design and construction clients, including John Holland Telecommunications, Zamro, National Infrastructure Services and AAPCS.

The upgrade of Telstra’s 3G network included sites in Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia, and was completed in less than 12 months.

Telstra owns and operates a number of mobile telecommunications network facilities. These facilities are located in cities and remote sites. Infrastructure includes towers, poles, SP Ausnet towers, rooftops and street cells. The project involved upgrades of existing facilities and work on new sites. Each site presented different design challenges and constraints.

GHD provided a comprehensive range of design services (planning, property, structural, electrical and environmental) to address these issues and produce a consistent and reliable product that met Telstra’s standard specifications.
