Accommodating Land Development

One of GHD’s longest and most successful infrastructure ventures in Malaysia includes two major mixed development plans for Taman Maluri in Cheras and Happy Garden in Old Kuchai Road.

Spanning 285 and 300 acres respectively, these two projects have been underway for 25 years and are still progressing today. GHD has provided structural, civil infrastructure, mechanical and electrical engineering services in this time.

Al Wakrah Hospital

GHD is the principal consultant for the design and post -contract supervision of this 300-bed, 122,000sqm acute care hospital, south of Doha.

The design is based on concentric circles, evocative of a stone thrown in a pond, to symbolise the outward growth of the hospital as it it expands into the future. The circular design allows for maximum use of light, which is both environmentally sound and also thought to be beneficial in the healing of patients.

Fisherman’s Beach Redevelopment

The Great Ocean Road Coast Committee (GORCC) in Victoria engaged GHD to prepare architectural concepts for the redevelopment of the Fisherman’s Beach precinct.

The precinct is a popular beach location at Torquay for walking and swimming, and is a launching site for commercial and recreational boats. The new building will be a high-profile development delivering a quality, cost-effective and sustainable outcome that showcases what can be achieved in coastal development.

Forest Gardens

GHD played an instrumental role in the development of Delfin’s Forest Gardens, one of Cairns’ most beautiful residential addresses set on the fringe of a World Heritage-listed rainforest.

The 1550-lot development was designed as a collection of distinct villages, each built around centrally located and fully landscaped neighbourhood parks, with community and recreational facilities.

Grand Hyatt Resort

GHD is the principal consultant for the design of this high profile five-star tourist resort. The architecture and services are designed in modern Qatari style and provide a solution to the harsh desert environment.

The Grand Hyatt development, commissioned by the Tourism Investment Company, is a luxurious resort complex comprising a 250-suite hotel and fully serviced five-star holiday villas. Located along the Arabian Gulf, the innovative cluster layout concept maximises the view of the beach from each villa, while retaining privacy. The design engenders the site’s characteristics, that of the collusion of water and the desert.

Mission Heights

When building two new schools on a greenfield site in Auckland, New Zealand, Hawkins Construction approached GHD to provide the skills they needed to complete the project – Green Star accredited professionals, engineering, landscape architecticture and much more.

Situated in Flat Bush, Mission Heights Schools is actually two schools sharing a library, administration facilities, a gymnasium and a performing arts centre. It  will eventually cater for close to 2000 students. A ‘fast tracked’ timeframe meant the large-scale project required swift completion. Working closely with ASC Architects, Hawkins Construction, the Ministry of Education and the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC), the tight timeframe dictated a strong partnering and team approach.

Sunshine Coast Industrial Park

The Sunshine Coast Industrial Park is the largest land subdivision ever carried out by the Queensland state governement. The park sits on 115ha and comprises 73 allotments, with 38 hectares retained as open space or as a conservation area.

GHD was engaged by the Queensland Department of Infrastructure and Planning to provide design, construction  contract management and project services, and has been involved from the early planning stage through to project completion.

Glenn has more than 18 years of experience in the management of a diverse range of multi-disciplinary infrastructure and urban renewal and environmental projects.

He has previously delivered challenging projects that require managing a high level of stakeholder involvement and public consultation.

As Service Line Leader for Land Development, he is focused on setting the strategic direction for our business in this sector and ensuring the successful delivery of our projects.
