Transport Planning & Traffic Engineering

Our transport and traffic team has extensive experience in planning, design and management of all facets of traffic engineering and transport planning projects.

GHD brings a fresh approach to Integrated Transport with an innovative, dynamic, highly motivated and enthusiastic team of traffic engineers and transport planners who harness a great depth of experience and knowledge in industry.

Whether you require high level policy and strategic advice at the beginning of a project or detailed engineering advice at the design stage, you’ll benefit from the commitment and dedication provided by our people. We pride ourselves on staying informed of the latest industry trends and thinking through regular involvement in industry groups, conferences and seminars.

We understand that transport needs are inherently linked to land use; the two cannot be understood in isolation. Our integrated team of transport and land use planners offer advice and solutions related to the entire system, rather than one item in isolation. Our solutions encourage active travel. Our thinking incorporates an understanding of economic and financial factors impacting on efficient freight movement, such as road versus rail freight options.

Public transport is becoming increasingly important in society. We are equipped to provide a way forward - from the specifics of bus route timetables through to the location and layout of new rail interchanges and associated track route alignments.

A New Busway for Brisbane

image

Queensland Transport engaged GHD to undertake a pre-feasibility investigation into the need, scope and likely issues involved with a proposal for the busway in the locality of the Gympie Road corridor. This corridor is a major arterial road that serves as both a regional linkage and a key component in the central northside district road network.

A range of previous studies, including the Corridor Selection Report, identified the need for a northern busway to provide a new public transport line haul (high quality, high frequency) route to support existing and future north side suburban services.

Haymarket Infrastructure Project, Lincoln, Nebraska

image

Roundabouts were utilized at two key intersections to address the future traffic concerns of the new Haymarket redevelopment project being completed by the City of Lincoln and the University of Nebraska.

Our tasks for the project included: the optimization of the horizontal geometrics and reviewing the vertical geometrics, jointing, pavement marking, signing, and lighting. GHD’s roundabout team was able to optimize the roundabouts for safety and capacity without impacting the overhead bridge’s abutment and piers with university parking lots and the railroads right-of-way. Our team presented mitigation techniques to improve the roundabouts’ operations during event traffic.
