GHD began operating in Malaysia in 1978. Known locally as GHD Perunding Sdn. Bhd., GHD is a professional services company registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia and the Ministry of Finance and Department of Environment. We have active corporate membership of a number of industry associations including the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia, Malaysian Water Association, Malaysia Australia Business Council and Business Council for Sustainable Development Malaysia.

Today, GHD operates six offices in Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur, Kuantan, Alor Setar, Kuala Terengganu and Kuching. At the heart of our business are more than 140 forward-thinking engineers, geologists, scientists, drafters, planners and support staff working together to deliver innovative solutions.

Groundwater Resources Development Study

Sime Darby Water Resources (Perak) Sdn. Bhd. engaged GHD to complete a pre-feasibility study and phase 1 of the feasibility study for the development of a groundwater resource in the state of Perak.

The studies were carried out to determine the potential for a sustainable groundwater resource of up to 5000 ML/d from fractured rock and alluvial aquifer systems within the Batang Padang District. The first stage involved a detailed airborne and ground geophysical survey coupled with drilling of 49 groundwater investigation wells and aquifer testing at a number of these sites.

Hydroelectricity feasibility studies in Malaysia

Malaysia has embarked on a major program to develop its energy resources, with the provision of hydroelectric power being a core component.

Sarawak Energy Berhad engaged GHD to conduct both pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, encompassing technical and financial issues, for the Baleh hydroelectricity project.

This initiative is part of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy Plan, which focuses on developing the state's energy resources, including hydropower, coal, natural gas and petroleum.

Khoo Liong Yu

Liong is a civil engineer with more than 25 years’ experience, predominantly in water projects. He joined GHD in Sydney in 1983 and has worked on projects in water supply, water treatment, sewerage, wastewater treatment and water recycling.

Liong’s vision is for GHD Malaysia to be the country’s premier professional services consultant, while making valuable contributions to the community. “There are tremendous opportunities in Malaysia and we want to be recognized for adding value to important projects for our clients,” he says.

Ir. Ab. Rahman Hashim

Ir Ab. Rahman is a company director for GHD Perunding Sdn. Bhd. He is also a regional office manager based in Kuantan. He manages the overall operations of Kuantan, Alor Setar, Kuala Terengganu and Ipoh. He also oversees business development and client relationship management for government business.

He is a civil engineer with over 20 years' experience in project management and civil engineering consultancies. He is involved in projects for the Malaysian government and private sector on the east cost of Peninsular Malaysia.

Ir. Ali Rahmat

Ir Ali is a company director for GHD Perunding Sdn. Bhd. He is also the project director for the mechanical group for GHD's building business in Kuala Lumpur, which includes heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), fire alarm system and hydraulics.

He is a mechanical engineer with over 20 years' experience in the planning, management, design and construction of mechanical building services. In addition, he is also a quality manager for the overall operations of the Kuala Lumpur office.

Ir. Tan Boon Ann

Ir Tan is a company director for GHD Perunding Sdn. Bhd. He is also the technical director for the electrical group based in Kuala Lumpur.

He has over 22 years' experience in the design and implementation of electrical installation for residential, educational, commercial and industrial buildings, infrastructures, water treatment and pumping electrical plants. In addition, he also has experience in high voltage distribution in up to 132kV substations, power system analysis and protection coordination.
