Data and AI Advisory
Data and AI advisory for infrastructure and asset owners
We help infrastructure owners, investors and operators make better decisions by connecting information with engineering judgement and operational experience.
We work with you to identify where improvement will have the greatest impact, build a stronger evidence base and apply analytics, modelling and AI where they deliver meaningful value.
What are you trying to improve?
-
Reducing cost while maintaining reliability
When cost pressures increase, service obligations remain. We help organisations understand which activities protect performance, where efficiency opportunities exist and what evidence supports change.
-
Knowing which assets are most likely to fail
We bring together condition, criticality and performance data to identify emerging risks earlier and support timely intervention
-
Getting more value from existing technology and data
We connect existing platforms, systems and data holdings so they can better support decision-making and operational outcomes.
-
Extending asset life before committing capital
Understanding asset performance and remaining life helps direct investment to where it's genuinely needed. It also provides a stronger basis for capital deferral decisions.
-
Using AI in practical, measurable ways
We apply AI where it improves a specific decision, workflow or operational outcome. The focus is on measurable value, not technology for its own sake.
Not yet sure what's holding performance back? That's a common starting point. We help diagnose the constraint, understand its causes and determine the most effective response.
What we do
We help infrastructure organisations improve performance, decisions and action by bringing together infrastructure knowledge, trusted information and the right technology.
Our work spans advisory and diagnosis, information engineering, platforms, monitoring, analytics, modelling, asset intelligence and applied AI. We assemble a combination that suits the problem, rather than starting from a fixed solution.
The role of data and AI in modern infrastructure
How we work with you
Begin with the outcome
We begin with the decision, problem or workflow that needs to improve. We then assess the value at stake, who will use the outcome, what information and organisational knowledge exist, whether it is technically feasible, how it fits operationally, and the consequences if the output is wrong.
If the foundations aren’t in place, the right next step may be to strengthen information, processes or governance before introducing AI. A worthwhile opportunity has a clear purpose, appropriate human oversight and a practical way to measure success.
Start small, build confidence
You don't need a large transformation program to begin. A focused use case often delivers the clearest path forward.
We define the outcome, assess the information and knowledge available, and test the approach within a focused scope.
The results provide evidence for future investment and help inform the governance, operating model and internal capability needed to sustain it.
Engage us at any stage
Early involvement helps clarify priorities, assess readiness and avoid technology decisions being made before the problem is fully understood.
We also support initiatives already underway, whether you need specialist capability, independent assurance, stronger engineering and operational context, or help bringing a stalled program back on track.
The best place to start is with a decision, workflow or operational challenge that matters to your organisation.

Knowledge management and AI
Asem Zabin and Jessica Talisman explore why useful AI depends on context, meaning and connected organisational knowledge, not simply access to more data. Learn how organisations can make what they know easier for people and AI to find, understand and apply.
Data foundations for AI
In this three-part series Tom Bedeman and Jon Jarritt draw on their experience in the UK alongside conversations with 27 asset owners around Australia to explore what makes infrastructure data trustworthy enough to build AI on:
- Part one — What breaks trust in infrastructure? Why results vary so widely when everyone is investing in similar technology.
- Part two — What's the difference between data, applications and platforms? Why technology alone rarely fixes data challenges.
- Part three — What should infrastructure leaders do next with AI? How to adopt AI in a way that suits your operations and risk profile.
Understanding data and AI in infrastructure
What it is, why it matters, and how it supports better decisions.
What is the difference between data, analytics and AI?
Data is the raw information held across assets, systems, projects and operations. Analytics helps organisations to understand performance, identify patterns and test scenarios. AI applies models to classify, predict, generate or assist with specific tasks.
AI is not automatically the best next step after analytics. The right approach depends on the decision being improved. Value comes from combining trusted information with the right analytical method, supported by engineering context, operational experience and human judgement.
What does data and AI mean for infrastructure and asset owners?
Why does organisational knowledge matter alongside data?
Data records what happened. Organisational knowledge provides context about why it happened, what constraints influenced the outcome or how similar situations have been addressed before.
That context often sits in engineering judgement, operational experience, previous decisions and lessons learned across the organisation.
Connecting this knowledge with trusted asset and operational information gives organisations a more complete basis for understanding risk, evaluating options and deciding what to do next. It also helps analytics and AI produce results that reflect the organisation’s assets, operating environment and accumulated experience.
Why do data and AI need governance?
Governance creates confidence in how data and AI are used.
For data, it establishes ownership, agreed definitions, quality expectations, lineage, access and controls, so people understand where information came from, what it means and whether it is suitable for the decision being made.
For AI, it defines how models are developed, tested, monitored and applied, alongside appropriate human oversight and accountability.
Without governance, organisations risk making decisions based on conflicting information or outputs that are difficult to explain and trust.
