DDB: fusing form and functionality

The previous office fitout had become antiquated in design and functionality. The major challenge was the physical and visual division it created among staff, who were dispersed across five floors. This separation not only hindered team collaboration and communication, but it also affected the overall morale of the workplace. The need for a new office space was clear, one that would foster a sense of unity and cohesion.

The new office is an act of modern design, strategically consolidating all 260 staff members onto two levels for improved collaboration and communication. The fitout seamlessly weaves together an eclectic and rich collage of materials and textures, to create a theatrical experience that is both inviting and dynamic.

The upper floor boasts a vibrant boardroom and social area, providing ample space for teams and clients to meet in a relaxed and comfortable setting, all while enjoying breathtaking views of Auckland’s Kauri Point and the Waitematā Harbour.

The lower level showcases much of the building’s existing structure, adding an industrial and edgy flair to the predominantly black production suite, which nicely contrasts with the warm, sociable atmosphere of the upper floor. The black Herringbone vinyl feature wall behind the welcome kiosk creates a striking visual statement against the polished concrete flooring.

The loft-like feel of the office is enhanced by light, sheer curtains and glazing details that create a silhouette effect, offsetting the hard dominance of the building.

The use of soft and muted colours, sugary pastel pinks and mint greens interplayed with bold olive green and petrol blue joinery, takes inspiration from the renowned Salone del Mobile 2018.

The outcome is a refined and understated interior that combines form and function, resulting in a space that truly embodies the core values and vision of DDB. The overall effect is both welcoming and inspiring, fostering an environment that leaves a lasting impression on clients and employees alike.
