Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency

Canberra, ACT, Australia

Client: Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency

Sector: Commercial and Workplace

To align directly with the Department’s vision, we designed the most environmentally sustainable, large-scale commercial office in Australia.

At a glance

To align directly with the Department’s vision, we designed the most environmentally sustainable, large-scale commercial office in Australia.

The challenge
Setting the benchmark in sustainability, the office was designed to achieve a 6 Star Green Star Office Interiors v1.1 and deliver value and efficiency.
Our response
This project presented our design team with two distinctly unique design opportunities.

The resultant design included the use of recycled materials, ‘green’ walls, natural displacement air-conditioning and operable windows, which contribute positively to energy efficiency.

The project also provided the opportunity to further develop a ‘campus’ workplace model and explore new ways of working, allowing for collaborative spaces and modularisation.

The workplace operates like its own ecosystem, complex yet seamless in its function. The design encourages an intuitive way of working and drove the exchange of resources and information.
The impact
The workplace design is an expression of the values of the DCCEE, not just environmentally but also of investing in its people to further increase the Department’s productivity.
