The Perth Busport revitalises and reconnects with the CBD

The Perth City Link Busport is the second and final stage of the AUD 249 million Public Transport Authority’s (PTA) infrastructure project to replace the 40-year-old Wellington Street Bus Station.

With the majority of the Busport below ground, connectivity between above and below ground activities is critical. Across 200 metres, in a dense retail precinct, three entry portals clearly identify access points into an extensive underground lounge.

The sweeping feature soffits of the entry portals provide passengers with a continuous visual link, from the Yagan Square entrance to the King Street entry portal, which reinforces precinct and wayfinding legibility without the need for excessive signage.

The Busport design provides a dynamic signature identity that creates a landmark presence that will remain legible, even when eventually built over, retaining and reinforcing an enduring identity into the future.

The airport quality lounge features a dynamic stand allocation system and real time tracking system. The system has the flexibility to allocate arriving and departing buses to different stands, allowing for a greater number of arrivals and departures per hour and thereby reducing the footprint of the new Busport.
