The new purpose-built Outpatients Department, a two-storey building located close to the main entrance, creates new look for the Modbury Hospital. The executive administration area provides new open office, breakout, office, meeting rooms, amenities and reception to level 5.

The Modbury Surgical Unit, located on Level 1, has been redesigned to maximise the ability to provide an evidenced based world class service that is efficient and effective.

The collocation of the Extended Emergency Care Unit (EECU) and Short Stay General Medical Unit (SSGMU) with the existing Emergency Department on the ground floor will align Modbury Hospital with other similar State services.

The re-establishment of a four-bed High Dependency Unit will support the local care of patients with complex healthcare requirements, reducing the number of transfers to the Lyell McEwin Hospital.

The relocation new purpose designed Palliative Care Unit to the ground floor with garden access, enables outstanding patient care to be provided in an environment that maximises comfort and dignity. The unit provides 20 single bedrooms with individual ensuites.

The new Rehabilitation Facility, known as SpARC, has been designed around three pods of activity: a hydrotherapy pool, generic treatment spaces and specialist treatment spaces. With many patients and families attending the facility for several hours at a time, the building has been designed to bring light into the public areas. The hydrotherapy pool features an optically clear film that lets light in while maintaining privacy.

Silver Thomas Hanley worked in collaboration with GHD Design on the Outpatients Department, Short Stay General Medical Unit (SSGMU), EECU and the Level 1 Surgical Unit.
