Watercare Huia Filtration Plant
At a glance
With a focus on modern design, improved acoustics and an efficient layout, Watercare’s goal was to create a workplace built on equity, fairness and respect—one where every team member feels valued and has a true sense of belonging.
The challenge
Watercare recognised the opportunity to shift towards a more flexible and collaborative work environment that not only meets the evolving needs of its staff but also fosters inclusivity and supports the diverse requirements of its team.
Our response
We provided project management services for the project, covering design, procurement and construction delivery. Our team brought together expertise in interior design, fit-out, electrical and mechanical systems and soft furnishings.
The project began with a site assessment as part of a larger programme spanning 10 locations. In the absence of accurate “as-built” information, we conducted detailed 3D scans to create a reliable foundation for planning. Concept designs were then developed and refined through multiple stages, with approvals secured at key milestones to ensure alignment with the overall vision.
The Huia site is a building rich in heritage. Our focus was on preserving its unique character while introducing modern enhancements that brought the office in line with other Watercare sites. The existing brick finish in the main office area—a defining feature of the structure—was retained and exposed, adding warmth while celebrating the building’s historical charm.
We also integrated sustainable flooring products that aligned with the organisation’s commitment to environmental responsibility. These upgrades revitalised the space, making it both functional and relevant while respecting its heritage roots.
The impact
The outcome is a more inclusive and supportive workplace culture, where all staff feel valued and engaged. Despite being an active plant, it now serves as an example of a workplace that prioritises equity, fairness and respect for everyone who works there.
