Four GHD projects recognized at the Consulting Engineers of Alberta Showcase Awards Gala
EDMONTON, Alberta — [4 May, 2026] — GHD, a global professional services company, was recognized at the recent Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) Showcase Awards for four projects spanning community infrastructure, energy transition and sustainable design across Canada.
“The projects span different sectors and regions, but each was shaped by local conditions, community interests and long‑term needs,” said Kerry Neil, General Manager for Western Canada at GHD. “Together, they show how innovative engineering supports sustainable infrastructure and evolving energy systems.”
Among the projects honored are:
Award of Excellence — Natural Resource Production for Kitasoo Quarry
The Kitasoo Quarry project established a locally operated, sustainable source of aggregate to support infrastructure in the remote coastal community of Klemtu, British Columbia. Led by the Kitasoo Xai’xais Development Corporation with engineering support from GHD, the project reduced reliance on imported materials delivered by barge while addressing logistical constraints, environmental sensitivity and technical complexity. The quarry has lowered construction costs, supported skills development and employment and strengthened long‑term local economic capacity. Environmental stewardship, Indigenous leadership and effective operational system has brought a community‑led approach that balances economic, environmental and cultural priorities.
Award of Merit — Natural Resource Production for the Pipeline Hydrogen Conversion Feasibility study for TC Energy
This feasibility study examined the potential to blend hydrogen into an existing high‑pressure natural gas transmission system in Alberta. As prime consultant, GHD evaluated material performance, fracture and fatigue behaviour, system hydraulics and component compatibility across a range of hydrogen blend scenarios. The study defined safe operating limits and identified technical requirements for hydrogen readiness, providing TC Energy with critical insights to support future evaluation of hydrogen integration across its network.
Award of Merit — Studies, Software and Special Services for an Ontario hydrogen blending study for Enbridge Gas
Award of Merit — Sustainable Design for green hydrogen production at Chute Lake
Led by the Gitga’at First Nation, this hydroelectric‑powered facility produces green hydrogen using electrolysis and is located approximately 12 kilometres from Hartley Bay in British Columbia, the Gitga’at First Nation’s home community. The project delivers a low‑carbon energy solution in a remote region with strong renewable resources while addressing technical and logistical challenges. The facility supports long‑term viability, capacity building and sustainable resource supply, providing a model for remote communities pursuing clean energy solutions.
