GHD is the winning team for the Washington state ferries system electrification program
Helping the Washington State Department of Transportation move toward a "greener" ferry fleet.
The Washington State Ferries (WSF) has identified the need to augment its project management and engineering staff with a General Engineering Consultant (GEC) to ensure the timely and successful delivery of the System’s ambitious electrification program. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) selected the Hill International team for a 5-year contract to oversee the undertaking of an ambitious electrification program to move toward a "greener" ferry fleet. The system electrification program focuses on building five new hybrid-electric Olympic Class vessels, converting three Jumbo Mark II vessels to hybrid-electric propulsion, and developing charging infrastructure at five terminals to support the full battery-electric operation of the vessels.
GHD is serving as a key member of the Hill team, helping oversee the development of the shore-side service improvements supporting medium-voltage charging stations at each terminal. To accomplish this, the program will need to bring power to the terminals and construct conduits, vaults, power & marine submerged cables, service connections, transformers, switchgear, energy storage systems, and other supporting equipment at the terminals.
