The challenge

The project involved the construction of an offshore wind farm comprising of an onshore substation and a string of five wind turbines with generating capacity of 41.5MW - powering up to an average of 36,000 homes, and with a tip height of 191.5m above LAT.

Our response

A PROJECT OF FIRSTS
The project was set to use the first 66kV submarine cable and the first large-scale gravity based foundations to support the wind turbines. To assure the design, GHD provided:

  • Provision of technical advice for the design of the electrical system and onshore substation
  • Review and verification of third party drawings and documents
  • Oversight of construction activities for the onshore substation
  • Attendance at factory and site acceptance tests

The wind farm successfully began commercial operations in October 2017.
