The project
The new Ontario Line South Civil is a stand-alone mass transit line linking downtown Toronto's Ontario Exhibition Place station to the Don Yard portal (west of the Don River). The project involves constructing a rapid transit system 6.7 km in length with seven stations - six will be underground, requiring 6 km of tunnels. Construction is expected to commence next year and take seven years to complete.
For the 227k+ residents and businesses along the subway line, the impact and benefits include reliable, affordable and quick transit connecting people directly to areas of the city that were only accessible by car or alternative out-of-the-way transit. Additionally, improved quality of life can be expected by decreasing commuter travel time and dispersing currently crowded transit routes.
