The challenge
Sanford, which originated as a family business in Auckland in 1881, has undergone impressive growth to become a company employing nearly 1,600 people. With over 130 years of sustained success, Sanford values its rich history but also looks forward to its future with great excitement.
To maintain enthusiasm and success, Sanford recognised the need to upgrade its existing building to meet building code standards and create an environment that was both flexible and engaging for its staff, encouraging collaboration and innovation.
Our response
While performing seismic re-strengthening work to meet building code standards, the construction team discovered the remarkable brickwork and unique structure of the building. The design team chose to celebrate the building’s history while creating a fitout that embraces the future.
The primary objective of the fitout was to create an innovative and high-quality design that balances freshness and familiarity.
The design pays respect to the maritime theme of the fish market and seafood industry, evident in the textures, colours and finishes. From the boatshed-inspired utility spaces to the fish-scale kitchen splashback, the fitout features small historic touches such as a life ring and rope screens that reinforce the company theme.
The sleek black reception counter with a vibrant graphic backdrop adds a contemporary touch to the overall design, providing a modern feel to the commercial workplace.
