Cerebos Greggs employee-centric workplace design
At a glance
Cerebos Greggs commitment to its employees and its brand values drove its decision to relocate and create a dynamic and adaptable workspace that fosters collaboration and sustainability.
The challenge
Cerebos Greggs identified the need for a more collaborative working environment for its staff, who were previously located in separate buildings in East Tamaki. To address this, it made the strategic decision to relocate to the historic AEPB building in Newmarket, which provided an open-plan space that fostered teamwork and creativity.
Furthermore, this move offered a significant advantage for Cerebos Greggs, as it allowed it to establish a closer proximity to key clients. This was particularly important as it continues to expand its presence in the coffee and hospitality industry, making it essential for it to be readily accessible to its clientele.
Our response
The new location features an impressive split-level floor within a historic building in Newmarket, providing a collaborative space for staff. The two areas have been designed to differentiate from each other, with the café acting as the perfect transition point.
The upstairs area has extra meeting rooms and acoustic treatment, catering to the contact centre and finance team’s functional requirements. The downstairs space has larger open collaboration areas and a café, perfect for relaxed and casual discussions. A long ramp with bright red carpet connects the two spaces, providing an elevated view of Nuffield Street.
The Food and Coffee Studio, located adjacent to the reception, offers visitors a rare glimpse of the behind-the-scenes coffee and food preparation. Inside, plywood tiered seating with colourful seat pads is capable of housing the entire company for large functions and demonstrations.
Existing office door hardware was installed onto new meeting room doors and the old doors were used as cladding for the café tree-house. The raw honesty of the building was exposed by revealing the existing terracotta-coloured roof trusses and large concrete beams by taking away parts of the ceiling grid.
Cerebos Greggs was able to salvage timber from its original Dunedin factory, now used to clad the Newmarket reception desk. Brand presence was a priority for Cerebos Greggs. Each meeting room was assigned a brand reflected in the furniture, lighting and graphics. Custom shelving outside the boardroom displays food and coffee, while the coffee machines have their dedicated showroom area adjacent to reception.
The impact
The final result of the fitout perfectly embodies the essence of the Cerebos Greggs brand, showcasing its dedication to its employees and product by providing a flexible, open-plan workspace that promotes collaboration and adaptability.
