The challenge
Rebuilding a 13.5-mile highway corridor at this scale meant balancing the need for improved safety and reliability with the environmental impacts that come with major roadway construction. Traffic gridlock along the existing corridor was already contributing to environmental strain, and the design-build contractor needed thorough environmental oversight to keep construction compliant while minimizing further impact throughout the rebuild.

We provided the design-build contractor with environmental oversight, documentation and inspection services throughout the North Tarrant Express Highway construction project, supporting the reconstruction of the IH 820 and SH 121/SH 183 (Airport Freeway) corridor in Northeast Tarrant County.
The impact
The $2.5 billion North Tarrant Express project rebuilt 13.5 miles of critical highway infrastructure, improving the safety and reliability of the highway system for drivers throughout Northeast Tarrant County. By easing traffic gridlock, the project also helped reduce the environmental impacts associated with ongoing congestion along the corridor.
