Yarrow Stadium's versatile transformation
At a glance
Yarrow Stadium aspires to be the best regional stadium in Aotearoa New Zealand, hosting local, regional, national and international sports and entertainment events.
The challenge
Following the closure of the earthquake-prone East and West grandstands in 2017 and 2018, Taranaki Stadium Trust set out to demolish the East Stand and refurbish the West Stand, including critical upgrades required to meet safety standards.
Our response
Set to open in 2025, the new East Stand will bring a new level of flexibility and versatility to the venue. The stand will not only be fully accessible for all, its ‘double-sided’ design will allow spectators to experience events on the main pitch or the adjacent sports field, serving as a canvas for conferences and trade exhibitions.
The hospitality lounge will have the ability to be subdivided into three separate areas, offering enhanced flexibility and adaptability. The stand’s kitchens will open up for weekend sports and large-scale events, while thoughtfully placed gender-neutral facilities reduce waiting times. Enhanced changing rooms and flexible spaces for match officials contribute to an elevated experience.
Featuring a capacity of 1,800, the East Stand will accommodate additional temporary seating for major events, maintaining the stadium’s overall capacity for large-scale gatherings.
The impact
The result of this project will transform the stadium into a year-round, versatile and inclusive destination that enhances the overall experience for spectators, contributing positively to the local community and economy.
