GHD, Jacobs joint venture wins design role for landmark bioresource hub

A GHD and Jacobs joint venture will lead the design for the Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre (AWRC) project for Sydney Water as part of the winning consortium with John Holland Group and Trility.

This major project will provide wastewater services for the Western Sydney Aerotropolis and South West Growth Area - creating a landmark bioresource hub for the people of Western Sydney and a global benchmark in circular economy ecosystems.

The new plant and associated delivery pipelines will initially treat up to 35ML and ultimately 70 ML of wastewater per day producing purified recycled water and include onsite energy recovery and a solar farm to provide renewable energy. This facility is expected to be a foundational element in the Western Sydney Parklands Precinct Master Plan. The essential wastewater services along with purified recycled water will support the evolving needs and enhance the livability of the community in the Western Sydney region.

John Holland/Trility and the Design Joint Venture (DJV) of GHD and Jacobs worked with Sydney Water through the tender process to develop the Facility Master Plan. The DJV will provide detailed designed services for this project and will draw upon the specialist town planning and urban design expertise of consultants Tract and GHDWoodhead to provide a solution that is respectful of the existing heritage values and enable social value-based outcomes for the area.

GHD Operations Manager, Kate Day says the project represents much more than a treatment plant and is a key enabler in driving innovative, long-term solutions for Western Sydney.
