GHD part of the project team for new UBE C1 Chemicals America manufacturing plant
As part of the expansion of the Cornerstone Energy Park at the Waggaman facility in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, GHD has been providing project coordination and management related to the planning and development of UBE C1 Chemicals America, Inc. (UBE) Facilities since the project was first being envisioned in 2022.
Cornerstone is bringing on a new lessee (tenant), UBE, into the Energy Park, requiring construction of their facilities. UBE is investing $500 million for a manufacturing plant to produce critical components for electric vehicle batteries.
GHD’s assistance with the project includes the following activities:
- Performing general project management activities, including project coordination with Cornerstone and other involved parties (i.e., other consultants participating as the Project team).
- Participating in routine project permitting meetings, regulatory agency meetings and stakeholder meetings.
- Developing and maintaining a project permitting and engagement schedule that allowed the design team and senior stakeholders to identify critical needs. This schedule fostered important communications that allowed the project to advance from concept to final design.
- Obtained state regulatory agency (Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality) approval for redevelopment of brownfield parcels within the Cornerstone Energy Park.
Recently, a groundbreaking ceremony took place to formally kick off construction phase of the project. The ceremony was attended by over 150 individuals including local elected officials, representative from various Louisiana state agencies, local community organizations, senior executives from Cornerstone and UBE, and representatives from the Economic Development Department of Japan. The project is an exciting opportunity for the community, contributing to the economy of the area and attracting more investment and innovation for Jefferson Parish.
