Installing solar panels on all of New Zealand's schools could generate 200 megawatts, with schools saving up to NZD 30 million a year.

The idea is part of a pitch called Empower Aotearoa, which recently won the GHD Smart Seeds innovation challenge in Auckland.

GHD's Smart Seeds is a 6-week design-led innovation programme in New Zealand, empowering the next generation of leaders to collaborate and collectively come up with solutions to some of the immediate challenges facing our communities.
