At a glance

GHD is returning to COP29 this year with a broad program of activity and a solid on-the-ground presence. Following our time at Climate Week NYC, it’s clear that we have moved past talk and ambition, and today, governments and organisations must focus on action-orientated conversations if we are to meet collective targets. The GHD delegation brings deep experience and technical expertise in shifting sustainability, climate change and energy transition strategies into real and commercially viable outcomes. Our team will be participating in events across the Blue and Green Zones, as well as Climate Action’s Sustainable Innovation Forum.

What is COP?

The United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP) is a series of formal meetings that brings together global leaders from almost 200 countries to measure progress and negotiate the best ways to address climate change. In addition to facilitating country level negotiations, delegates from across the public, private and NGO sectors come together to collaborate and discuss solutions on how to positively move the world forward. Climate change leaders, scientists, experts and influencers come together to share their stories and solutions at panel discussions, exhibits, cultural events and hundreds of side events.

Why is COP important?

COPs are critical in the effort against climate change. The annual event offers an opportunity to raise the level of attention to the impacts of climate change, reflecting the absolute need for multi-sector stakeholder collaboration. The awareness of the impacts of climate change and the need for action has led to an exponential increase in the demand for participation from a wide spectrum of stakeholders. Having grown steadily over the two decades, the conferences are attended by tens of thousands of delegates from all over the world. The goal of this year’s COP is to deliver deep, rapid and sustained emission reductions through enhanced ambition and enabled action.

What is GHD's role at COP29?

Our delegation will participate in panel sessions, roundtable conversations and event discussions. Gregory Carli, Global Advisory Leader, Sustainability, Resilience and ESG, GHD Advisory will be speaking at the Sustainable Innovation Forum 2024 with a focus on catalysing transformative climate action. Hosted by Climate Action, the side event convenes 1,000 senior global climate leaders from business, finance, governments, cities, regions and NGOs to exchange insights and forge vital collaborations and partnerships.
