The challenge
Our response
The design response for the medical school places learning on display, incorporating flexible and adaptable spaces in an adventurous and exciting way.
Its building mass follows the eastern and southern boundaries of the site to create a dramatic cantilever at the apex, over the main entry. Continuing around to the north, the building deviates from its linear and angular form by introducing a curved façade facing the northwest courtyard. Its sweeping structure embraces the civic space of the courtyard creating a textured backdrop.
The interior spatial planning provides a multitude of classrooms catering for formal teaching along with opportunities throughout for casual, informal learning.
The impact
The striking new medical school building is designed to support the university’s unique strategic objectives and educational ambition to deliver leading, contemporary medical education.
