The project comprises of 216 self-contained student accommodation units across five buildings, alongside two multi-purpose facilities and the renovation of existing housing. Emphasising existing integrated training and living environments, the design maximises the natural surrounding environment, fostering a sustainable atmosphere for living and working in. 
The challenge
Integrating a large-scale accommodation complex with existing infrastructure, while meeting the diverse needs of the Defence Force School of Signals. Requiring careful consideration of site ecology and microclimate, maximising natural features and creating an operational environment for living, working and learning. Additionally, the project requires forward-thinking master planning to accommodate future development stages while ensuring functionality and sustainability.
Our response

Master plan concepts were developed, maximising the utilisation of the existing spaces, considering the need for an integrated training and living environment. GHD Design’s team allowed for future stages of development by designing simple building forms that knit into the existing infrastructure, maximising the existing natural and human made site features.

The impact
The Living in Accommodation buildings are located in an open area, addressing site ecology and micro climate, seeking to lessen the impact of the built environment and resulting in a healthier place in which to live, work and learn.
