Transforming a pipeline reserve into a vibrant space that connects communities
At a glance
The objective of the Greening the Pipeline project is to transform a heritage-listed pipeline reserve into a unique area to meet, play and relax that also functions to collect and filter rainwater for reuse to water the landscape. The first pilot section was completed at Williams Landing.
The challenge
Our response
Working closely with our clients and key stakeholders was central to our approach of the Greening the Pipeline project. The project is a collaborative alliance between Wyndham City Council, Melbourne Water, Greater Western Water, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, the Department of Transport and Traditional Owners, supported by Greening the West.
One of the innovative, sustainable features enabled by our integrated team was a central raingarden which filters out pollutants from suburban stormwater before it is stored in an underground tank under the park and reused to water the landscape.
The impact
The first part of the long-term Greening the Pipeline project, was built along the reserve at Williams Landing, improving liveability and sustainability for the local community for decades to come.
