TORONTO, Ontario – (10 April, 2026) – GHD, a global professional services group, is contributing engineering and remediation knowledge to some of Canada’s largest environmental cleanup projects, as mentioned in the 2026 Top 25 Remediation Projects Report published by Environment Journal.

The report examines large remediation initiatives currently underway across Canada, representing a combined remediation value of $5.03 billion. The projects span nuclear waste cleanup, legacy industrial contamination, mining remediation and brownfield redevelopment.

No. 1 on the report’s list is the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ Port Hope Area Initiative in Port Hope and Clarington, Ontario, which focuses on the long-term management of historic low-level radioactive waste.

GHD is serving as an engineer on the project, supporting remediation planning and delivery for one of Canada’s most complex and long-running radioactive waste management programs.

GHD is also leading the planning and design remediation for the report’s No. 5 project: A’sé’k Boat Harbour in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. The project aims to restore the former tidal estuary to its natural state following more than 50 years of contamination associated with effluent from the former Northern Pulp facility.

“Large-scale remediation projects like these require long-term thinking, technical rigour and close collaboration with communities, regulators and project partners,” said Jennifer Son, GHD’s Canadian Environmental Market Lead. “GHD is supporting remediation efforts across Canada that are focused on restoring environments responsibly and delivering sustainable outcomes over the long term.”

The report highlights continued momentum in Canada’s remediation sector, supported in part by the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan, a multibillion-dollar federal program addressing contaminated sites across the country. Broader environmental commitments, including Canada’s 2030 Nature Strategy, are also influencing how remediation projects are planned and delivered.

The Top 25 Remediation Projects Report is a new annual ranking of the largest cleanup projects currently underway in Canada, based on total remediation cost. It also highlights the range of engineering, environmental and construction firms involved, underscoring the collaborative nature of large-scale remediation work.
