Marsha Anderson Bomar, strategic transportation advisor at GHD and president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), recently delivered the George H. Boyd Distinguished Lecture at the University of Georgia.
Her lecture, “Valuing Infrastructure to Avoid the Bumps in the Road: Research, Reporting, and Advocacy,” examined how ASCE uses data-driven evaluations and its Infrastructure Report Card to guide investments on roads, bridges, water system, and airports.
“When we look at the projects in which we invest, we want to make sure we are developing sustainable and resilient solution — that we’re building them to improve safety, and that we’re taking care of the best public interest,” Bomar told UGA Today.
Anderson Bomar’s experience spans decades of leadership across public and private sectors, including previous roles as commissioner emeritus for the City of Atlanta Department of Transportation and assistant general manager at Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transportation Authority (MARTA). She also founded and ran her own companies, Street Smarts and Data Smarts, for two decades.
The event was hosted by UGA’s Office of Research and supported by the William S. and Elizabeth K. Boyd Foundation, continuing their mission to connect national leaders and policymakers with academic research to solve real-world challenges.
