Our partnership with SolarBuddy is made possible through GHD in the Community and provides a practical way for our people to contribute to a global challenge that aligns closely with our purpose and our work in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure.
Why energy poverty matters
Around the world, millions of children live without reliable access to electricity. When the sun goes down, opportunities to study, read, complete homework or access digital learning can disappear with it.
SolarBuddy works to address this challenge by providing solar-powered lights to children experiencing energy poverty. Each light helps create safer conditions for learning and gives children greater opportunities to continue their education after dark.
For GHD, the partnership reflects many of the same aspirations that underpin our work with clients. Whether we're helping deliver renewable energy projects, enabling sustainable infrastructure, or supporting communities through the energy transition, we understand the profound difference access to energy can make to quality of life and future opportunities.
Hands-on impact
In FY26, GHD people came together at 19 SolarBuddy events across Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.
A total of 445 people participated, assembling 603 solar lights that will be distributed to children experiencing energy poverty through SolarBuddy's in-country partners.
