Bunnings: blending brand heritage with modernity
At a glance
Bunnings expressed a strong desire to relocate its headquarters to establish a modern and attractive environment for its staff that would not only enhance agility, but also aid in staff retention and attraction.
The challenge
The previous headquarters, while functional in its own right, was no longer able to meet the growing needs and expectations of the company. The new premises on Great South Road presented a unique opportunity for Bunnings to upgrade and modernise its workplace environment.
Our response
Spanning across two floors, the new workspace features a new internal stairway that serves as a vital social connection to the lively upper-level social hub. A clear admiration for the client and its products can be seen throughout the fitout, with decorative feature walls showcasing creative uses of materials such as trellis that have been stripped and rearranged into stunning patterns.
The carefully selected colour scheme reflects the client’s branding hues and is balanced with elegant pine and timber veneer details. A rustic pallet feature wall behind the reception adds a delightful DIY touch.
The sleek curvilinear “rockcote” reception desk, inspired by the building industry, exudes a refined industrial aesthetic that is both professional and inviting.
The company’s remarkable growth journey is visually documented on a 3-dimensional pipework timeline painted in bold red, serving as the centrepiece of the company graphic wall. It showcases the transformation of a small Perth-based sawmilling company, founded in 1887, into the globally recognised hardware store brand that is Bunnings. The hospitality bar adjacent to the reception is a standout feature, boasting a striking splashback and bold red grout.
The cafeteria has a Bunnings store feel with carefully selected furniture that complements the overall design aesthetic.
The impact
The new office has underpinned a cultural transformation and new ways of working, beautifully reflected both aesthetically and through flexible spaces that promote collaboration and social interaction.
