Prebbleton School's adaptable learning block
At a glance
The aim was to create a diverse array of spaces, tailored to support a spectrum of teaching and learning styles, easily adaptable for seamless reconfiguration.
The challenge
The Ministry of Education aspired to construct a new learning centre capable of accommodating its expanding student population, alongside Prebbleton’s existing 150 students, all within the confines of a compact 1.8-hectare site adjacent to the current school.
Our response
We provided a full suite of integrated design services on the new block, including planning, architecture, structural, building services and civil engineering.
The result is a building that embodies a modern, understated architectural style that harmonises seamlessly with the existing school buildings and the surrounding landscape. Its design encompasses a range of interconnected, efficient and adaptable teaching and learning spaces.
Incorporating sustainability at its core, the structure employs natural materials, optimised cross ventilation and strategic orientation to maximise the influx of abundant natural light and views.
Additionally, generously sized covered balconies not only enhance thermal comfort but also serve as extended spaces for learning, social interaction and recreation.
The impact
The new classroom block creates vibrant, versatile learning spaces for flexible learning and community and school events while accommodating the school’s growing role.
